Brilliant tropical greenish aquamarine water, calming gentle ocean breezes, lush palm trees overflowing with coconuts,  endless glistening summer sunshine and a friendly reliable left hand point break protected by a subtle cove lies one of the most beautiful  gems of mainland México’s coast line.  The heart of Mexico and  the beach community  known as Playa Saladita has produced the surfing phenomenon Ilianet Nuñez. Traditional longboarding has always been about skill and style and Ilianet has been blessed with an abundance of both as she developed a world class style unique to the beautiful environment she calls home. Ilianet effortlessly glides through the line up inspiring all those who surf with her and experience her surfing grace and elegant maneuvers. 

​The new 9’4 Garnet Model has been specifically shaped with a ultra refined California square tail and modified rocker to make nose riding very stable while giving the board excellent off the tail turning capabilities. We surprised Ilianet with two new modified Garnet Models specially shaped for her and the beautiful waves of mainland Mexico.

Once a year the top craftsmen and women of the surfboard world gather to celebrate the surfboard emphasizing the  unique characters and differing design elements, manufacturing processes, materials,  and vision of what a surfboard is, was,  and will evolve into. From high tech short boards to traditional longboards, and even a vintage surfboard auction and board swap, there is something for every surfboard aficionado. The Board Room Show is family friendly event bringing together all the different generations of surfers and board builds to celebrate what we all love … surfboards.

The Hot Rod Surf Team was out and about enjoying the festivities. The Hot Rod Surf Avenger 7’11 Model with shape and custom resin art lamination by Mark Whitney Mehran was on display in the Best of Show Exhibit Competition. ​

Once a year OMBAC (Old Mission Beach Athletic Club) hosts The Classic Longboard Surfing Contest at the north side of Crystal Pier in Pacific Beach, San Diego.  All surfboards must be authentic pre 1970 vintage with mens, womens, and a youth Menehune  divisions. The event is as much of a gathering as a contest.  Vintage surfboard enthusiasts get a chance to show off their classic collectors boards with family friendly fun watching the next generation of top surfers push the limits of how vintage surfboards can be ridden. Proceeds go to support the Prevent Drowning Foundation of San Diego/ San Diego Junior Lifeguards.  The Hot Rod Surf Team brings out some of our vintage surfboard collection and partakes in the surfing festivities. For those who already ride our new Hot Rod Surf Surfboards  they have unique opportunity to see what a classic long board rides like without having to commit to being a contestant. As vintage surfboards become more scarce and valuable this event becomes more exceptional as these highly treasured collectors pieces of art come back to life in the water.  This year we lucky enough to take home the honor of Best Vintage Surfboard  with our very rare patina Dewey Weber 1967 Team Board.  If you are into classic vintage surfboards this event is a good one.

*This is the first and only slotted boxed D fin design that actually lets you slide the fin all the way back to the tail just like the vintage boards we love so much. Fitting is variable since tail rockers are all different so the small gap at the end  of the tail will vary from board to board. Seaweed & Gravel came on the scene a few years ago and has captured the heart of North County San Diego.
